Prof. Urmila Ambalal Thaker

Prof. Urmila Ambalal Thaker (b. 7 October 1952, Patadi, Gujarat) is a distinguished academic and researcher in Library and Information Science. A Gold Medalist and Ph.D. scholar from Sardar Patel University, she served as Professor and Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Sardar Patel University until her retirement in 2014 and later as UGC Emeritus Professor (2015–2017). With over 40 years of teaching, research, and editorial experience, she has guided 10 Ph.D., 45 M.Phil., and 300+ MLISc dissertations. She has completed major UGC research projects and published over 35 scholarly papers and several influential books in English and Gujarati. Currently associated with Gujarat Vishvakosh Trust, she is editing the Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science in Gujarati. A prolific literary editor and poet, she has co-edited numerous Gujarati poetry and short story collections, contributing significantly to both LIS and Gujarati literature.
